Ura-roji House
Senior share house as a way to solve the problem of living in Japan and Korea for senior people.
In particular, based on the understanding of the individualistic cultures of the two countries, the proposal has been developed starting from the point that “separation of private and communal life” that enables sustainable life in a share house.
A reference survey was conducted by directly visiting two share houses in Japan, and based on this, a prototype of a new senior share house was finally proposed.
Ura-roji means ‘back alley’ in Japanese. We usually prefer to go to somewhere through the back alley rather than the main aisle when we don't want to expose something. In other words, share house residents will be given two options - one is by using the main passage when they wanted to meet or share with someone else, and the other could be using Ura-roji, which makes senior people maintain a balance between their private and communal life is this share house.
